Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Announces Major Food Grain Production Increase
In a significant development for the agricultural sector, Minister for Agriculture Surya Pratap Shahi revealed that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed an impressive surge in food grain production, with an increase of approximately two lakh metric tonnes. This growth underscores the state's commitment to enhancing agricultural output through dedicated efforts and effective schemes.
Bundelkhand Region Undergoing Transformation
Minister Shahi highlighted that the Bundelkhand region is experiencing a notable transformation, driven by continuous initiatives and productive agricultural programs. He made these remarks while inaugurating the three-day North Regional Farmers' Fair at Banda Agriculture and Technology University on Thursday, emphasizing the region's evolving agricultural landscape.
University's Role in Agricultural Advancement
During the event, Shahi praised the growth and contributions of Banda Agriculture and Technology University. He stressed the importance of disseminating technologies developed at the university to farmers across the state. "The technologies being developed at the university should reach the farmers. The state government is supporting various projects running at the university," he stated.
Furthermore, the minister announced that the administration plans to provide an edible oil processing unit to the university, enhancing its research capabilities. He also advised the institution to focus on research and efforts for the long-term storage of mustard seeds, aiming to improve post-harvest management and reduce waste.
Awards and Recognitions at the Farmers' Fair
The fair served as a platform to honor outstanding contributions to agriculture. Renowned agricultural scientist Girish Prasad Dixit, director of the Indian Pulses Research Institute, was conferred with the Agricultural Research Gaurav Award for his exemplary work in the field.
In addition, ten farmers from the region were awarded for their significant contributions to agriculture and allied sectors. The Kakrua Self Help Group of women farmers from Lalitpur was also honored for its achievements in animal husbandry and milk production, showcasing the vital role of women in agricultural development.
Emphasis on Water Conservation
Water conservationist Padma Shri Umashankar Pandey addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical need to develop effective water conservation models to tackle water scarcity issues in agricultural regions. His insights highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in ensuring long-term agricultural productivity.
University's Achievements Highlighted
Vice-Chancellor Prof SVS Raju delivered an address outlining the university's achievements, reinforcing its role as a key player in agricultural research and education. The event underscored the collaborative efforts between the government, academic institutions, and farmers in driving agricultural progress in Uttar Pradesh.
