Bathinda: Punjab and Haryana continue to remain under a 'yellow alert' as a severe heatwave has pushed temperatures to 44.6 degrees Celsius in Rohtak and 44.3 degrees Celsius in Bathinda and Faridkot. These extreme weather conditions are expected to persist through Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Temperature Soars Above Seasonal Norms
The IMD has reported that the mercury has risen significantly above seasonal averages, with temperatures recorded up to 5 degrees Celsius higher than usual. On Friday alone, both states witnessed an average temperature increase of 0.5 degrees Celsius. In addition to the intense daytime heat, Haryana is experiencing 'warm night' conditions, while gusty winds reaching speeds of 33 kilometers per hour have been reported in Faridkot and Sonipat.
Relief Expected from Sunday
However, relief is in sight. A Western Disturbance over southwest Rajasthan is likely to trigger isolated light to moderate rainfall across both states, starting Sunday and continuing until April 30. This weather system is expected to bring down temperatures and provide respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as necessary.
