A tragic road accident in Visakhapatnam on Sunday morning claimed three lives and left eight others injured. The incident occurred when a speeding Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus collided with a stationary truck near Sri Nagar in the city.
Details of the Accident
According to the Gajuwaka police, the accident took place when a coal-laden truck had pulled over due to a flat tyre. The bus, which was en route to Parvathipuram from Rajahmundry with 35 passengers on board, crashed into the stationary truck. The impact was so severe that two passengers and the co-driver of the bus died on the spot.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Rayaipilli Rambau (50), a native of Saluru; Rali Radha Madhavi (35), a native of Rajahmundry; and Lenka Eswaramma (55), a native of Vizianagaram. All three succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The injured passengers were immediately rushed to King George Hospital (KGH) for medical treatment. Four of the injured are reported to be in stable condition, while the other four have sustained multiple injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver's negligent and rash driving led to the mishap. It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding. A case has been registered, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy visited King George Hospital on Sunday morning to console the families of the deceased. He directed officials to ensure that the injured passengers receive the best possible medical care. Additionally, the minister instructed the police and transport department to conduct a thorough inquiry into the accident and submit a report on the circumstances that led to it.
Government Compensation
The Andhra Pradesh government has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the families of each of the deceased. This financial assistance is intended to provide some relief to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
