Man cheats six of Rs 16 lakh with fake PMC job promises

The Sant Tukaramnagar police on Wednesday registered a case against a Dapodi resident who allegedly duped six individuals collectively worth Rs 16.18 lakh by promising them jobs in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The accused, who claimed to be an administrative secretary in the administration department of PMC, told the complainant that there were vacant posts available on compassionate grounds and assured him that he could secure those positions for his relatives.

Details of the Fraud

According to the police, the complainant's four relatives and two friends gave a total of Rs 16.18 lakh to the accused in September 2024. However, they did not receive the promised jobs. Despite repeated follow-ups, the accused failed to return the money, leading to the registration of a case against him.

Police Investigation

An officer from the Sant Tukaramnagar police station stated that the complainant and the accused were known to each other. In 2024, the accused informed the complainant that he worked at the PMC and would help his relatives secure jobs as peons and clerks. The officer added, "The complainant's four relatives and two friends gave him money. He, however, duped them. According to the complainant, the accused was working with the PMC but is currently under suspension. Our investigations are ongoing."
