Infosys CEO Salil Parekh has firmly denied recent rumors circulating on social media about an employee's detention by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. He made this clarification during the company's third-quarter earnings press briefing on Wednesday.
CEO Addresses Viral Social Media Claims
A social media post had gone viral, claiming that US ICE agents arrested an Infosys employee from Mysuru, Karnataka, at his home in the United States. The post alleged that the employee received only two hours to pack and faced a choice between jail or deportation. It stated he opted to return to India and was escorted by agents to ensure his flight departure via Frankfurt.
Parekh directly countered these claims. He stated unequivocally that no Infosys employee has been apprehended by any US authority. However, he acknowledged a separate incident from a few months ago. In that case, an employee traveling on an H-1B visa was denied entry upon arrival in the US and subsequently sent back to India.
Background of US Government Investigation
This clarification comes against the backdrop of an ongoing investigation by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). In October 2025, Infosys disclosed that the DOJ had initiated a probe into how the company classified certain H-1B visa recipients in immigration documents for employees working with a specific client.
The company reported this under 'government investigations' in its quarterly filings. Infosys noted it is engaged in discussions with the DOJ and has started its own internal inquiry. At this stage, the company cannot predict the outcome or its potential impact on business operations.
No Change in Visa Strategy
During the earnings briefing, Parekh emphasized that Infosys's approach to H-1B visas and recruitment in the US remains unchanged. He explained that the company continues to use a mix of on-site work in the US and offshore work from India. Parekh highlighted that a majority of Infosys employees in the US do not require immigration support from the company.
Regarding new H-1B visa applications, Parekh stated the company is continuing with its current processes. He said they will examine the situation as it evolves in the future. The CEO reassured stakeholders about maintaining delivery continuity with clients despite these immigration challenges.
The company's swift response aims to quell misinformation and maintain transparency about its operations and compliance with US immigration laws.
