The Kalkura Pratishtana, in collaboration with the Savayava Krishika Grahaka Balaga, is organizing a two-day 'Halasu-Mavu Mela' starting Saturday at Manju Prasada, Kadri Kambala in Mangaluru. This mela is part of the Naadu Nudi Jagruti Sammelana series and aims to provide a platform for organic farmers and consumers.
Participation and Stalls
Growers from Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru, Belagavi, and local areas will participate. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Kalkura Pratishtana, informed reporters on Wednesday that the mela will strictly feature only organically grown agricultural products, with scrutiny to ensure compliance. Last year's mela received a good response, and this year around 35 stalls are expected. Alongside fruits, stalls offering books and plants will also be present.
Unique Features
Kalkura emphasized the uniqueness of the mela, stating it will feature only farmer-grown, home-made, and pesticide-free products. Only products cooked using coconut oil, groundnut oil, or ghee are permitted; no refined oil is allowed. The mela will showcase different varieties of jackfruits, including rudrakshi and chandra halasu, and mango varieties such as mallika and malgova. Additionally, value-added dishes made from mango and jackfruit, aquatic plants, mango and jackfruit plants, vegetable seeds, saplings, agricultural equipment, and agricultural literature will be available.
Cultural Events
From 8 am to 7 pm over two days, cultural events will take place at Pejawar Vishwesha Thirta Vedike in Vadiraj Mantapa. A 'Pratibha Puraskara' cultural program will be held to recognize student talents.
