GNIDA Anti-Encroachment Drive Frees Land Worth Rs 80 Crore

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday, reclaiming approximately 40,000 square metres of land in the notified area of Bhanauta village. The recovered land is estimated to be valued at around Rs 80 crore.

Details of the Drive

The operation was conducted by teams from the land records and project departments, acting on the directives of GNIDA Chief NG Ravi Kumar. The encroachers had been involved in illegal construction activities on land parcels identified by Khasra numbers 132, 133, and 135 in Bhanauta village and its adjoining areas. The land in question had already been acquired and notified by the Authority, making the encroachments unlawful.

Official Statement

Additional CEO Sumit Yadav stated that strict legal action would be taken against the individuals responsible for the encroachments. He also issued an appeal to the public: 'I urge people to verify all details with the Authority’s land records department before purchasing any land in Greater Noida. This will help avoid investing hard-earned money in illegal colonies.'

Context of Rising Land Prices

The rapid industrial development in the region, coupled with the construction of the Noida International Airport, has led to a sharp increase in land prices in and around Greater Noida. This surge has prompted some individuals to engage in illegal plotting and unauthorized construction. Encroachers typically target vacant land or farmland, selling plots at lower rates to unsuspecting buyers.

The GNIDA has emphasized its commitment to curbing such illegal activities and ensuring that land acquired for development purposes remains free from unauthorized occupation. The Authority has warned that similar drives will continue in the future to protect public land and maintain orderly development in the region.
