Madhubani Banking Review: Banks Directed to Boost Loan Disbursement

Madhubani District Banking Review Meeting Calls for Accelerated Credit Flow

A crucial district-level review meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) convened at the Collectorate conference hall in Madhubani on Monday. The session, held under the directives of District Magistrate Anand Sharma, aimed to comprehensively assess the progress of various banking schemes implemented across the district.

Dissatisfaction Over Credit Plan Performance

Deputy Development Commissioner Suman Kumar Sah, who chaired the meeting, expressed strong dissatisfaction with Madhubani's current performance under the Annual Credit Plan. The district has achieved only 48.22% of its targets, which officials deemed unacceptable. In response, the DDC issued a clear directive for all banks to immediately switch to camp mode and significantly accelerate loan disbursement processes.

The banking institutions were specifically instructed to focus on three critical sectors: agriculture, industry, and retail. Sah emphasized that concerted efforts must be made to ensure 100% target achievement by the deadline of March 31, 2026. This aggressive timeline requires substantial improvement from the current performance levels.

Focus on Government-Sponsored Schemes

The review meeting placed special emphasis on several flagship government-sponsored schemes that are crucial for economic development and employment generation. These include the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), PM Vishwakarma, and PM SVANidhi.

Bank officials received explicit instructions to make extraordinary efforts to meet targets under these important initiatives. The meeting also addressed administrative bottlenecks, with officials directing banks to expedite the disposal of pending loan cases and auction notices that have been delaying credit flow.

Operational Priorities and District Development

Several operational priorities were highlighted during the meeting to streamline banking processes. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing the reconciliation of register IX and X, ensuring timely completion of pending KYC (Know Your Customer) and re-KYC processes, and facilitating swift settlement of accounts under the depositor education and awareness fund.

Highlighting Madhubani's status as an aspirational district, Deputy Development Commissioner Sah asked banks to enhance credit flow in multiple key development sectors. These include agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, food processing, PMFME initiatives, Agri-Clinics and Agri-Business Centres, and rural godowns. The objective is to accelerate the district's overall economic development through improved financial inclusion and support for local enterprises.

Closing Session and Attendees

During the concluding session, Lead District Manager Gajendra Mohan Jha urged all banking institutions to work in close coordination to achieve the set targets. He thanked all participants for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between different stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by a diverse group of officials and representatives, including MLA Asif Ahmad, district coordinators from various banks, officials from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), district-level officers from various Bihar government departments, and other concerned members. This broad participation underscores the importance placed on improving banking performance in the district.
