In the early hours of Wednesday, four unidentified men attempted to rob an Axis Bank ATM kiosk located at Sartaj Nagar on Noorwala Road in Ludhiana. Their plan was thwarted when an alarm was triggered at the bank's headquarters in Maharashtra as the suspects used a gas cutter to break open the machine.
Police Alerted and Chase Ensues
Upon receiving the alarm, the bank headquarters immediately alerted the Ludhiana police. As a police patrol vehicle approached the scene, two suspects standing outside the kiosk alerted their accomplices inside. The robbers swiftly fled in a car, with police in pursuit.
Dead-End Confrontation
The chase led the suspects to a dead-end street, where police moved in to arrest them. However, the accused brandished a gun and opened fire at the officers. In an effort to avoid escalation, the police did not retaliate, allowing the suspects to escape from the seemingly trapped location.
Investigation Underway
Inspector Jasvir Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Jodhewal police station, confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the accused for attempted ATM robbery and firing at police officers. When questioned about how the suspects managed to escape from a dead-end, the SHO stated that the police were outnumbered at the scene.
The police are now conducting a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and gathering evidence to track down the suspects. The incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with armed criminals and the importance of quick response systems in preventing such crimes.
