UAE Indian Schools Conclude Academic Year Early, Transition to Online Learning
In response to evolving regional circumstances, several Indian curriculum schools across the United Arab Emirates have proactively announced an early conclusion to the academic year for students. This decision follows the completion of most end-of-year examinations, with any remaining academic activities being shifted to online platforms to maintain educational continuity and prioritize student safety.
Examinations Completed Without Disruption
School administrators emphasize that the adjustments are designed to minimize disruption to students' academic progress. Exam schedules and results processing are proceeding as planned, despite the revised calendar. At Shining Star International School in Abu Dhabi, principal Abhilasha Singh confirmed that final examinations have already been successfully completed.
"Our exams concluded on Friday, March 6. The examination period began on February 16, and both our primary and secondary students have now finished their assessments. Last week's exams were conducted online, ensuring no interruption to the examination schedule," Singh stated. She added that teachers will continue working remotely to compile and finalize results while the school monitors ongoing developments.
Online Exams and Bridge Classes Implemented
In Dubai, Springdales School Dubai has adapted its approach to accommodate the early break. Principal David Jones explained that students were in the midst of Term 3 examinations when the decision was made. "In Indian curriculum schools, we typically do not observe a spring break. Instead, we conduct end-of-year exams before the term break," he noted.
To facilitate this, remaining exams for Grades 6 to 8 will be held online between 9 am and 10 am, featuring shorter question papers designed for completion within an hour. Subjects include Mathematics, Science, and English. Additionally, bridge classes for students transitioning into Grades 10 and 12 will commence online starting Monday, recognizing the critical nature of these academic years.
Jones also highlighted that retests will only be permitted in cases of genuine medical emergencies to uphold the integrity of the examination process.
New Academic Year Timeline and Communication
In Ras Al Khaimah, Indian School Ras Al Khaimah has confirmed that online classes ended on March 6, with students beginning their break immediately. According to a school circular, the holiday period will extend until March 30, when the new academic year is set to begin. The notice also outlined key dates for the upcoming year, including summer and winter vacation schedules, to assist families in planning.
The circular further detailed that retests are scheduled to start on March 23, with a detailed timetable to be shared with parents soon. Administrators across these schools are maintaining close communication with parents to reassure them that learning will continue uninterrupted despite the schedule changes.
This coordinated effort by UAE-based Indian curriculum schools underscores a commitment to balancing safety with academic rigor, ensuring students can progress without compromise during uncertain times.
