Moga Man Fatally Shot in Canada While Assisting Alleged Kidnapping Victim
A tragic incident has unfolded in Canada, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man from Moga district, Punjab. Davinder Singh, a resident of Daulatpura Niwan village, was shot dead while reportedly trying to help a woman who had escaped from her alleged kidnappers.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to family members, the event occurred late on a Friday evening while Davinder was on duty as a taxi driver. Relatives in Canada informed the family that a woman suddenly entered his taxi, seeking urgent assistance after fleeing from a group that had purportedly kidnapped her.
Shortly after, the suspected kidnappers caught up with the taxi and opened fire. Davinder Singh sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene. The assailants then allegedly forced the woman back into their vehicle and fled the location.
Family and Community in Mourning
News of Davinder's killing has plunged his family and the residents of his native village into deep grief. Villagers described him as a hardworking youth who had migrated to Canada approximately four years ago to support his family financially.
His father, Nirbhay Singh, expressed profound sorrow over the loss. The bereaved family has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Government of India for assistance in repatriating his mortal remains to India for the last rites.
Police Investigation and Official Response
The Canadian police reached the spot promptly and have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and locate the missing woman. However, local authorities in Moga have not yet received official information about the incident.
Moga (Sadar) SHO Harvinder Singh Mand stated that the police are awaiting formal confirmation and details from Canadian counterparts before proceeding with any official actions or statements.
This heartbreaking event highlights the risks faced by individuals in the diaspora and underscores the need for international cooperation in addressing such violent crimes.
