Trump's Mar-a-Lago New Year: Live Jesus Painting Sells for $2.75M for Charity
Live Jesus Painting at Trump's NYE Sells for $2.75M

Former US President Donald Trump ushered in the New Year at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, with a unique spectacle: a live painting of Jesus Christ created on stage, which was subsequently auctioned for millions of dollars for charitable causes.

An Unconventional New Year's Eve Performance

The black-tie event, hosted by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, took an artistic turn when Christian worship artist Vanessa Horabuena was invited to the stage in the Donald J Trump Grand Ballroom. As music played and guests watched, Horabuena worked rapidly on a large black canvas to create a portrait of Jesus Christ, with Trump observing from nearby.

In just ten minutes, the artwork was complete, earning applause from the audience. Trump praised Horabuena, calling her "one of the greatest living artists" and highlighting her remarkable speed. The artist later revealed she had painted for Trump earlier in the week, and he was so impressed he asked for a repeat performance for the New Year's Eve celebration.

The High-Stakes Charity Auction

Following the completion of the still-wet painting, Trump took on the role of auctioneer. He announced that the proceeds would go to charity and even offered to personally sign the artwork to drive up bids. The auction opened at a substantial $100,000 and climbed steadily as Trump engaged with the crowd, humorously noting that many attendees were "loaded with cash."

The bidding concluded at an impressive $2.75 million. Trump announced that the funds would be split between St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and a local sheriff's department, marking a significant charitable contribution from the evening's festivities.

A Gathering of High-Profile Guests

The live painting and auction were the centrepiece of Trump's annual New Year's Eve celebration at his Palm Beach club, often called his "Winter White House." The event drew a select and high-profile guest list. Attendees included First Lady Melania Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, members of the Trump family, senior administration officials, and prominent business leaders.

Guests in formal attire gathered under heightened security for an evening of dinner, music, and fireworks. Earlier, Trump shared his New Year's resolution with reporters, stating it was simply "Peace on Earth." The event underscored the continued blending of politics, philanthropy, and spectacle in Trump's post-presidency.
