Acting Attorney General Blanche Addresses Bondi Dismissal in First Press Conference
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche conducted his inaugural press briefing following the abrupt termination of Pam Bondi by President Donald Trump last week. During the conference, Blanche openly admitted that he has no insight into the reasons behind Bondi's removal from her position.
Uncertainty Surrounds Bondi's Departure
"Nobody has any idea why the attorney general is no longer the attorney general and I’m the acting attorney general, except for President Trump," Blanche stated emphatically. He further explained that his focus remains on executing the president's agenda rather than speculating on administrative decisions.
"I don’t operate every day trying to second guess what President Trump or anybody else is thinking. I just operate every day on doing everything that I need to do to execute the president’s agenda and priorities," Blanche declared during the press conference, which was primarily called to outline new anti-fraud initiatives.
Blanche Expresses Willingness for Permanent Role
When questioned about his future in the position, Blanche expressed clear enthusiasm for potentially serving as the permanent Attorney General if selected by President Trump. "If President Trump chooses to keep me as acting, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate somebody else and I go back to being the DAG, that’s an honor," he stated.
He added a personal note of loyalty: "If he chooses to nominate somebody else and asks me to go do something else, I will say, 'Thank you very much. I love you, sir.'"
Speculation About Epstein Files Connection
Media reports have suggested that Bondi's dismissal may be connected to President Trump's dissatisfaction with how the Department of Justice handled the Epstein Files investigation. According to these reports, Trump wanted the department to pursue his political adversaries more aggressively in relation to the Epstein case.
However, Blanche directly addressed these rumors during an earlier interview with Fox News, stating he had never heard the president cite the Epstein Files as the reason for Bondi's termination. "The Epstein files has been a saga that’s lasted for the past year. And what happened when the president signed the transparency act is that the Department of Justice has now released all the files with respect to the Epstein saga," Blanche explained.
Transition Period Cut Short
Pam Bondi was originally expected to remain in her position through the transition period, but Blanche's press conference strongly indicated that her departure has already been finalized in what appears to be an unceremonious exit. Blanche expressed frustration with media speculation about presidential motivations, stating, "I grow tired of people in the media saying why President Trump did or did not do something, because President Trump’s the only one that knows that."
The Department of Justice now moves forward under Blanche's temporary leadership as the administration determines its next steps for the Attorney General position. The press conference marked a significant moment in the ongoing reshuffling of key legal positions within the Trump administration.
