The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the Kashi province launched a significant three-day convention in Jaunpur on Monday, setting a historic organizational record and charting a course for student activism centered on national development.
Record-Breaking Membership and Leadership
The convention commenced with the announcement of a major milestone. Abhay Pratap Singh, the national secretary of ABVP, revealed that the Kashi province unit had achieved an unprecedented 3.9 lakh student memberships this year, shattering all previous records. This surge in membership underscores the organization's growing footprint in the region's educational landscape.
In a key organizational development, the convention appointed Mahendra Nath Tripathi as the new president of the ABVP Kashi province. Shivam Singh was selected for the crucial role of state secretary. These appointments are set to guide the unit's activities following the conclave.
Championing Nation-Building and Youth Power
The event was graced by Olympic medalist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, who commended ABVP's efforts. He emphasized that the real strength of a nation lies in its youth. "ABVP is continuously working towards nation-building. If the youth are mentally and physically strong, the nation automatically becomes strong," Dutt stated.
He elaborated on a collective vision for progress, noting that while sportspersons bring glory and soldiers guard frontiers, teachers build the nation's foundation. "Our goal should be to move forward united, taking the entire society together," the wrestler added, highlighting the need for contributions from every section.
Key Resolutions and Contemporary Challenges
The convention presented several important resolutions for deliberation, which will be finalized with delegate suggestions on the final day, as per Abhinav Mishra of ABVP's central media team. The key resolutions include:
- Addressing vacant seats and delayed admission processes in central and state universities.
- Commemorating 150 years of India's national song 'Vande Mataram'.
- Launching a movement titled 'From Screen Time to Green Time' to promote balanced living.
- A vision document for the empowerment of Sonbhadra, named 'From the Frontier to Empowerment'.
Speaking on the perils of excessive screen time, Abhay Pratap Singh identified it as a leading cause of mental stress and depression among youth. He also expressed concern over divisive ideologies in educational institutes and stressed the need for student-power to unite for constructive nation-building. "It is crucial that student-power remains aware, abandons destructive tendencies, unites for nation-building, and contributes to shaping a stronger Bharat," Singh asserted.
Call for Grassroots Transformation
Setting the tone for the convention, Ramesh, the prant pracharak of RSS for Kashi, addressed the delegates. He stated that India today requires a national resurgence grounded in knowledge and character. "For nation-building, transformation at the grassroots is essential. It is our duty to help youth identify friends and foes of the nation," he remarked, outlining a foundational agenda for the participating student members.
The convention, through its record numbers and wide-ranging agenda, positions the ABVP's Kashi unit as a pivotal force in shaping student discourse around education, social unity, and national consciousness.
