Iran Criticizes US Role, Urges Regional Unity for West Asia Peace

Iran Condemns US Military Role, Advocates for Regional Unity in West Asia

In a recent interview with Xinhua, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei delivered a sharp critique of the United States' involvement in West Asia, stating that the presence of US forces and their allies has not contributed to peace or stability in the region. Baghaei emphasized that long-term security hinges on cooperation among regional countries, rather than external military interventions.

Accusations of Aggression and Violations of International Law

Baghaei condemned what he described as aggressive actions by the United States and Israel, including attacks on Iranian territory, which he labeled as violations of international law. He asserted that such measures constitute a breach of peace and cannot be justified under any legal framework. "This act of aggression cannot be justified by any argument or rule of international law. It is a breach of peace, and the Iranian nation is resolute to defend itself as long as it takes," he told Xinhua.

Criticism of US Credibility and Allegations of Miscalculation

The spokesperson further criticized statements from US authorities, claiming they lack credibility due to inconsistency and contradictions in international relations discourse. "No person of common sense regards American authorities' statements and remarks to be trustworthy, as they are not stable, change their words and make contradictory remarks about each and every topic of international relations," Baghaei said. He alleged that the United States entered the conflict by choice, possibly influenced by Israel, and miscalculated Iran's resilience. "We did not start this war. It was the U.S. war of choice. They were dragged into this war, perhaps by Israel, out of their miscalculation that they could easily make Iran surrender," he added.

Iran's Nuclear Programme and Regional Relations

Addressing Iran's nuclear activities, Baghaei reiterated that Tehran's atomic programme is peaceful and accused the United States and Israel of spreading misinformation about potential weaponisation. He highlighted Iran's intention to strengthen ties with neighbouring countries in the Persian Gulf and beyond, underscoring that regional cooperation is essential for security. "Our intention is to strengthen our relations with each and every state in the Persian Gulf region and our neighbouring countries," he stated, adding that stability depends on collaborative efforts among regional states.

Targeting of US Bases and Disruption of International Trade

Baghaei clarified that Iran holds no hostility towards regional countries but noted that American military bases around Iran are targeted because they are used for operations against the Islamic Republic. He also accused the United States of disrupting international trade through unilateral sanctions, describing Washington's actions as "lawless and rogue, which pose a serious danger to international peace and security." According to Baghaei, regional nations are increasingly recognizing that US military presence has not fostered peace or stability in West Asia.
