Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that conditions are likely to become favorable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into more parts of Odisha over the next four to five days. This forecast comes after the monsoon showed no signs of further movement over the state in the preceding two days, having reached some pockets on Friday.
No Movement in Two Days
According to Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at the IMD center in Bhubaneswar, there was no movement of the monsoon over the state for two days. He explained that the prevailing wind pattern had influenced the situation, checking the advance of the monsoon over Odisha. However, Dwivedi did not rule out the possibility of the monsoon advancing to more parts of the state within a day or two, amid light to moderate rain or thunderstorm activity experienced in some southern Odisha pockets during the day.
Temperature and Weather Warnings
An IMD bulletin indicated that there would be no significant change in daytime temperatures over the next three to four days. The hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in some districts on Monday. Additionally, orange and yellow warnings for rain and thunderstorm activities will continue in certain districts over the same period. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur in many places across some districts.
These forecasts come as daytime temperatures continue to rise in many parts of the state. On Sunday, Boudh recorded the highest temperature in Odisha at 42.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Titilagarh at 41.5 degrees Celsius and Balangir at 41 degrees Celsius. The city of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius.
