Gaya: A prayer ceremony was conducted at the Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya on Wednesday as part of a seven-day memorial service for Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, who passed away at the age of 47.
Ceremony Details
According to a press release from the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), member secretary Mahashweta Maharathi stated that Thai monks residing in Bodh Gaya and several devotees participated in the ceremony. They paid tribute to the departed royal, recalling her spiritual connection with the sacred site.
Sacred Rituals
As part of the observances, sacred water was poured at the Holy Bodhi Tree at the exact spot where the princess had meditated during her visit to Bodh Gaya in 2016. Thai monks conducted prayers under the Bodhi Tree, marking the solemn occasion.
About the Princess
Popularly known as Princess Pa, she was the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and a respected member of the Thai royal family. She held multiple postgraduate law degrees from Cornell University and was known for her public service, diplomatic work, and advocacy for justice reforms and the welfare of female inmates.
Attendance
Members of the Thai monastic community and devotees attended the ceremony, paying homage to her memory and her association with the Mahabodhi Mahavihara.
