Visakhapatnam: In a significant move aligning with the austerity measures announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken steps to reduce his official convoy. Naidu, who previously trimmed his convoy, arrived at a meeting venue with only four vehicles, setting an example for the public.
CM’s Call for Austerity
Addressing the gathering, Naidu urged citizens to follow the PM’s instructions and adopt a simpler lifestyle. He emphasized the importance of working from home whenever possible to reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion. “Let’s reduce the buying of gold. Let’s travel by public transport. Let’s reduce the use of edible oils. Let’s promote natural farming. Let’s buy ‘Made in Andhra’ and ‘Made in India’ brands. Instead of going abroad for tourism, visit tourist places in AP,” Naidu said.
Key Recommendations
- Work from Home: Reduce commuting to save fuel and time.
- Reduce Gold Purchases: Minimize spending on gold to curb imports.
- Use Public Transport: Opt for buses and trains to cut down on personal vehicle usage.
- Limit Edible Oil Consumption: Reduce intake for health and economic benefits.
- Promote Natural Farming: Support organic and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Buy Local Brands: Prioritize ‘Made in Andhra’ and ‘Made in India’ products.
- Domestic Tourism: Explore tourist destinations within Andhra Pradesh instead of traveling abroad.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come at a time when the central government is pushing for self-reliance and fiscal discipline. Naidu’s personal gesture of reducing his convoy size is seen as a symbolic step to inspire the masses. He also highlighted the need for collective effort to strengthen the economy and promote environmental sustainability.
Citizens have responded positively to the CM’s call, with many expressing willingness to adopt these measures in their daily lives. The state government is expected to launch awareness campaigns to further promote these austerity practices.
