Gumla: A 24-year-old woman from Navatoli in Simdega district was allegedly shot dead by a resident of Bihar early Saturday after her family refused his marriage proposal, police said. The deceased was identified as Jeba Praveen.

Quoting the deceased's father, Md Hussain, officer in-charge of the Kolebira police station Harsh Kumar said, "Jeba Praveen befriended the accused, a resident of Vaishali district in Bihar, on a social media platform a month ago. Both were in regular contact. The accused, a truck driver by profession, had visited her house four to five times in the past week, trying to force her to marry him. Her family, however, did not agree to his proposal owing to differences in their family backgrounds."
Sequence of Events
Around 4 am on Saturday, the accused reportedly entered her house when the girl's mother went outside after waking up. The mother saw the girl breathing heavily and noticed blood coming from a bullet injury on her forehead. She woke up her husband and other family members. Jeba was rushed to the Kolebira community health centre (CHC), which later referred her to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. However, she died on the way. A search operation has been launched to arrest the accused.
