A tragic road accident occurred in Haryana's Mahendragarh district early Friday morning, claiming two lives and leaving 16 others injured. A Volvo bus carrying approximately 40 tourists collided with a stationary truck loaded with iron angles on National Highway-152D near Buchawas village.
Details of the Accident
The bus was en route to Jaipur from Manali when it slammed into the truck parked along the roadside. The impact was severe, with iron angles protruding from the truck piercing through the front portion of the bus, completely mangling the driver's cabin. The deceased were identified as Somveer (30), the bus driver, and Dilkush (31), the conductor, both residents of the Jaipur region in Rajasthan. The injured passengers were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mahendragarh for treatment.
Crash Occurred Around Dawn
According to police, the accident occurred at approximately 5 am near the Buchawas cut on NH-152D. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus lost control before crashing into the parked truck. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision ripped apart the front section of the luxury coach, throwing several passengers from their seats and causing panic and chaos. Local residents and police launched an immediate rescue operation, evacuating many trapped passengers through windows before shifting them to the hospital.
Among the injured was Jaipur resident Yashasvini Mishra, who was traveling home from Chandigarh. Recounting the incident, she said most passengers were asleep when the accident occurred. "We were crying out for help after the crash. While many people came forward to assist, some were busy recording videos instead of helping the injured," she alleged. Mishra further claimed that the driver appeared fatigued during the journey and that the conductor had allegedly taken over the wheel before the accident. However, police officials stated that these claims are yet to be verified and are part of the ongoing investigation.
Majority of Victims From Rajasthan
The injured include passengers from Jaipur, Chandigarh, Dausa, and Paonta Sahib. Hospital authorities initially described several passengers as seriously injured, though district officials later said none of the patients was in critical condition. Two passengers reportedly suffered fractures. Doctors confirmed that all injured passengers are under observation and receiving medical care.
Somveer's elder brother Mukesh said the deceased driver had been working in the transport sector for several years and is survived by his wife and two young sons, aged three and five. Dilkush, the conductor who also died in the accident, was unmarried and belonged to the same village as Somveer. The deaths have left both families devastated.
Following the accident, Mahendragarh Deputy Commissioner Anupama Anjali, SP Deepakand, and Additional SP Faizal Khan visited the Civil Hospital to meet the injured passengers and review medical arrangements. Before visiting the hospital, SP Deepak inspected the accident site and directed officials to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the crash. "The investigation is being carried out from every angle. Statements of the injured passengers are being recorded and all aspects are under examination," the SP said.
