US Military Reports 10,000 Strikes in Iran War, But Questions Arise Over Trump's Briefings
The United States announced on Wednesday that it has exceeded 10,000 strikes in its ongoing military campaign against Iran, with officials stating the operation is "on plan or ahead of plan." However, a new report casts doubt on whether President Donald Trump is receiving a full picture of the conflict, suggesting he may only be shown selective updates.
Selective Briefings for President Trump
According to NBC News, citing an unnamed official, the US military has been compiling daily video updates for President Trump since the war began. These videos reportedly highlight only the "biggest, most successful" strikes from the previous 48 hours, potentially omitting less favorable developments. The official explained, "We can’t tell him every single thing that happens," adding that briefings tend to elicit better responses when they focus on US achievements.
White House secretary Karoline Leavitt strongly denied these claims, stating in a response, "That’s an absolutely false assertion coming from someone who has not been present in the room." This rebuttal underscores the tension between military reporting and political communication in the high-stakes conflict.
US Central Command Details Military Successes
In a video update, US Central Command chief Brad Cooper provided a detailed account of the campaign's progress, now in its fourth week. He confirmed the milestone of 10,000 targets hit and emphasized the collaborative efforts with Israel, saying, "If you combine what we've accomplished with the success of our Israeli ally, together we have struck thousands more, clearly demonstrating that we're stronger together."
Cooper highlighted significant degradation of Iran's military capabilities:
- Naval Power: He claimed that 92 percent of Iran's largest warships have been destroyed, effectively ending their ability to project naval influence. "They’re not sailing," Cooper stated, noting that Iran has lost the capacity to threaten global shipping in regional waters.
- Air Defence and Production: The US strikes have overwhelmed Iran's air defence systems, with missile and drone launch rates dropping by over 90 percent. Additionally, more than two-thirds of Iran's missile, drone, and naval production facilities are reported as damaged or destroyed, hindering the regime's ability to rebuild.
Cooper asserted that these actions are having "tangible effects" on Iran's operational capabilities, reducing their threat to American forces and neighboring countries.
Broader Context of the Conflict
The war has seen escalating rhetoric and actions from both sides. Iran has claimed to have shot down an 'F-18' fighter jet over Chabahar, though US fact-checkers dispute this account. Meanwhile, Iran has issued warnings about potential attacks on infrastructure in response to reports of enemy plans to occupy an island with regional assistance.
President Trump has commented on the situation, suggesting that Iran is "afraid" to admit it desires a deal and warning that "they'll be killed by their own people or us." This statement reflects the volatile political dynamics surrounding the conflict.
As the war continues, the disparity between military reports and presidential briefings raises questions about transparency and strategy. The US maintains its stance of overwhelming force, while Iran faces mounting pressure on multiple fronts.
