Kanpur: In a tragic incident late Tuesday night, two youths lost their lives in a hit-and-run accident on Jahanabad Road in the Ghatampur area. An unidentified vehicle struck their motorcycle, leading to fatal injuries.
Accident Details
According to police reports, after the collision, the motorcycle became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged along the road. Both riders sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Sumit (24), a resident of Kalana village in Fatehpur district, and his fellow villager Himanshu Sonkar (25). Police stated that Sumit had gone to drop his sister Priyanka at Kanpur Railway Station for her journey to Delhi late at night. He was returning home with Himanshu when the accident occurred near the Paras turn in the Ghatampur police station area.
Police Response
Police reached the spot after being alerted by passersby. They notified the family members of the victims and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Station in-charge Manoj Singh Bhadauria said that further action will be taken based on the written complaint filed by the family.
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of road safety and hit-and-run cases in the region. Authorities are investigating the matter and searching for the vehicle involved.
