A tragic accident near Ulundurpet in Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of two drivers and left five bus passengers injured on Monday. The incident involved three vehicles and occurred on the national highway.

Details of the Accident

According to police, Marimuthu (47) from Velachery was driving a mini-bus chassis vehicle from Chennai to Trichy. In the early hours of Monday, as he reached Sengurichi near Ulundurpet, police suspect he may have dozed off. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median on the highway. The impact severely damaged the front portion, and Marimuthu died on the spot.

Shortly after, a private bus traveling from Devakottai to Chennai collided with the already crashed vehicle. Five passengers in the bus sustained minor injuries.

The collision pushed the mini-bus chassis vehicle onto a nearby road, where it crashed into a mini lorry carrying goods from Chennai to Trichy. The driver of the lorry, Sudharsan (21) from Mecheri in Salem district, died on the spot.

Traffic Disruption

The pile-up caused severe traffic congestion on the national highway for several hours. Authorities cleared the scene and restored traffic later.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. They urge drivers to avoid driving when fatigued to prevent such tragedies.
