One person was killed and two dozen others were wounded in a series of Russian drone attacks across Ukraine on Monday, local authorities confirmed. The strikes come as Kyiv and Moscow escalate long-range attacks amid stalled peace negotiations.
Details of the Attacks
The fatality occurred in the southern city of Kherson. In the northern town of Chernihiv, eight people were wounded, and power was cut off to approximately 10,000 residents, according to officials. Emergency services in Chernihiv released images showing firefighters battling a large blaze in the middle of the night following the assault.
Ukrainian Air Defense Response
The Ukrainian air force reported that Russian forces launched 265 combat drones in the barrage, of which 228 were shot down by air defense units. The remaining drones caused casualties and damage across multiple regions.
Regional Impact
In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, seven people were wounded. Four more were injured in the central city of Kharkiv, one in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, and at least two additional injuries were recorded in Kherson. The attacks began at midnight, targeting various Ukrainian cities.
Retaliatory Strikes
Ukraine has intensified its own long-range strikes in recent months, primarily targeting Russian energy infrastructure. The conflict, now in its third year, has been described as the bloodiest in Europe since World War II.
This report is based on information from local authorities and the Ukrainian air force.
