An old mortar shell was recovered in a park near Sher-i-Kashmir Bridge on the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The bomb disposal squad safely defused the shell, officials said on Saturday.
Discovery by a Local Youth
The shell was discovered by a young man who was out for a morning walk. He immediately informed the police about his find. Upon receiving the information, the police and the Army swiftly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety.
Bomb Disposal Squad Action
Officials stated that a bomb disposal squad was called to the location. The squad carefully examined the shell and safely defused it, eliminating any potential danger. The area was later declared safe.
The recovery of such explosive remnants highlights the ongoing challenge of unexploded ordnance in the region, which has seen decades of conflict. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects to the police immediately.
