A massive explosion rocked a house at Upputhara in Idukki district on Sunday morning, completely destroying the building and leaving the owner with severe burn injuries. The incident occurred at the residence of M Ansari at Pakkaveedu in Upputhara. Ansari, who sustained critical burn injuries covering nearly 60% of his body, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Pala for treatment.
Blast Impact and Initial Response
The explosion was so powerful that it shattered the walls of the house and blew apart the roofing sheets. The impact was felt in nearby houses, leaving residents terrified. Initially, locals suspected an LPG cylinder explosion, but upon inspection, the gas cylinder inside the house was found intact and safe, raising further questions about the cause.
Ansari was the only person present in the house at the time of the blast. Police officials from Upputhara police station arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary inspection. A relative of Ansari reportedly told police that flames erupted while he was lighting the gas stove. However, police stated that this explanation does not appear fully convincing.
Forensic Investigation Underway
Following the preliminary assessment, forensic experts were called to the site. They collected samples from the debris for detailed analysis. Police confirmed that the exact cause of the explosion can only be determined after receiving the forensic test results. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are exploring all possible leads to ascertain what triggered the devastating blast.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many expressing concern over the safety of their own homes. Police have assured residents that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent such incidents in the future.
