Man Stabbed to Death Outside East London Café Identified

A man who was fatally stabbed outside a café in east London last month has been formally identified by police as 37-year-old Khalid Achchaq. The incident occurred on April 7 shortly after 4 pm outside Café Rosh on Watney Street in Shadwell, following reports of a violent altercation in the busy area, according to The Sun.

Details of the Attack

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the stabbing was reported. Achchaq was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. A second man, aged in his 50s, sustained a knife wound to his arm during the attack. He was treated at a hospital and later discharged.

Suspect Charged

Police stated that the suspect, Hassan Lbane, a 39-year-old from Whitechapel, surrendered to officers in Birmingham three days after the stabbing. He has since been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Investigation and Appeal

A major investigation was launched following the incident. Officers cordoned off Watney Street and nearby areas in Tower Hamlets, including sections around the Docklands Light Railway entrance at Shadwell Place. Crime scene photographs showed metal chairs scattered across blood-stained pavement, with evidence markers placed around the area. Parts of the street and station entrance were sealed off as forensic teams examined the site.

Investigators continue to appeal for witnesses and urge the public to share any CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, mobile phone videos, or Ring doorbell footage that may assist the probe.

Victim Remembered

Achchaq had moved to London around five years ago and worked night shifts at a bakery in Whitechapel. He has been described by friends and local community members as “kind and generous.” A close friend said he was well known in the area and regularly played football with locals. He described Achchaq as “a very good guy” who was “always laughing and smiling.”

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support his family and help repatriate his body to Marrakech for burial, with thousands of pounds already raised.

The investigation remains ongoing.
