BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Hebbal tunnel project, describing it as a 'tombstone of scientific urban planning' in Bengaluru.
Surya's Criticism on Social Media
In a post on X, Surya stated, 'Mr Chief Minister, you have not laid a foundation stone today. You have laid the tombstone of scientific urban planning in Bengaluru.' The comment came during the official event marking the start of the tunnel project, which aims to ease traffic congestion in the Hebbal area.
Project Details and Background
The Hebbal tunnel is part of a broader infrastructure initiative to address Bengaluru's chronic traffic woes. However, Surya argued that the project lacks proper scientific planning and will not provide long-term solutions. He claimed that the government has ignored expert recommendations and failed to integrate the tunnel with the city's overall transport network.
Political Reactions
Karnataka's ruling Congress party defended the project, stating it is based on detailed studies and will benefit commuters. A government spokesperson said, 'The Hebbal tunnel is a crucial step towards modernizing Bengaluru's infrastructure. We have consulted experts and conducted feasibility studies.' Surya's remarks reflect ongoing political tensions over urban development in the city.
