Kochi city police on Thursday night arrested a woman allegedly involved in the organ trade. The arrested individual has been identified as Maya M, 48, a resident of Vazhoor in Kottayam. The arrest was made in connection with a case registered by the Ambalamedu police.
Details of the Arrest
According to a statement released by the police, investigations revealed that Maya M assisted the main accused by including an unrelated person as her brother on her ration card to create fake documents. She also allegedly submitted false information to the district-level authorisation committee in order to obtain permission for organ donation. The statement further indicated that she received financial benefits for her involvement in the illegal activity.
Previous Raids and Seizures
Earlier, during a raid conducted at an apartment in Peringala, Kunnathunadu, police seized a variety of incriminating items, including fake seals, forged documents, counterfeit letter pads, and hard disks. These materials were reportedly used in the organ trafficking operation.
Current Status of the Case
With the arrest of Maya M, the total number of individuals taken into custody in this case has risen to seven. The police have stated that further investigations are ongoing. Authorities are particularly focused on uncovering the connections between those arrested and organized organ trafficking groups that operate both within the state and outside its borders.
The police continue to urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist in the ongoing probe.
