Tensions between Iran and the United States are escalating once again. A senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Rostam-Ali Rafiei Atani, has issued a provocative challenge, daring Washington to 'make a mistake' and test its power on the ground. The remarks come after Donald Trump signaled the possibility of renewed strikes on Tehran, even as he reviews a 14-point peace proposal sent by Iran through intermediaries.
IRGC Commander's Challenge
Atani claimed the United States has already been defeated at sea and in the air, adding that the conflict has 'shattered America's hollow power' and eroded global trust. He stated, 'Come if you dare,' and warned that any ground war would result in a historic defeat for the US.
Escalating Rhetoric
The Iranian army's taunts come amid a backdrop of heightened military posturing. Iran has deployed a 'mosquito fleet' of fast attack boats in the Strait of Hormuz, and satellite images have shown 40 attack vessels in the region. The IRGC has also threatened to use 'dolphin bombs' against US naval forces.
Meanwhile, Trump has reportedly used emergency powers to send billion-dollar weapons to Middle East allies, bypassing Congress. He has also rejected Iran's peace plan and hinted at further strikes, saying, 'I'll let you know.'
Iran has issued an ultimatum with 14 demands, giving the US 30 days to comply. The demands include a halt to sanctions and recognition of Iran's regional influence. Iran has also warned that no Israeli ships will be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz, and hostile nations must pay or leave.
China has warned that Trump-Xi talks will focus on the Iran issue, adding a geopolitical dimension to the crisis. The situation remains volatile, with both sides refusing to back down.
