An Indian national was the victim in the attack on Kuwait International Airport by Iranian drones on Wednesday. The Embassy of India in Kuwait expressed its deepest condolences for the tragic demise of the Indian national, as stated in a post on X. The embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and is closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all possible support and assistance to the family and those injured in the incident.
Attack Amid Escalating Tensions
The attack occurred amid a broader escalation between Iran and the United States, despite ongoing ceasefire efforts. Besides the death of one person, Iranian drones struck Kuwait International Airport, causing heavy damage to a passenger terminal. The US military reported intercepting multiple drones targeting American forces in Kuwait, and noted that Iranian missiles fired toward the country fell apart en route. Additionally, US and Bahraini forces intercepted missiles and drones aimed at Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's 5th Fleet.
Retaliatory Strikes
In response to the attacks, the US launched strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Both Washington and Tehran described their actions as retaliatory, as tensions continued to strain efforts to preserve a fragile regional ceasefire.
