The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has accused Pakistan of disseminating fake news and misleading videos concerning ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). In response to queries on the matter, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that Pakistan is attempting to divert attention from its own failures and alleged human rights violations in the region. Jaiswal referred to reports of severe police brutality in POK, claiming that several people have been killed and many others injured during the unrest. He asserted that the circulation of misinformation is part of a broader effort to conceal developments on the ground.
International Community Urged to Act
The MEA spokesperson also called on the international community to take note of the situation and hold Pakistan accountable for alleged abuses and misconduct in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The remarks come amid continued protests and reports of clashes in parts of POK, drawing attention to the region's political and human rights situation. India has consistently raised concerns over human rights issues in POK and has urged global bodies to intervene. The latest accusations highlight the ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries over the disputed region.
Background of the Conflict
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has been a flashpoint between India and Pakistan since the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. India maintains that the entire former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir is its integral territory, while Pakistan controls a portion of it. The region has witnessed multiple wars and insurgencies, with human rights organizations documenting abuses by both state and non-state actors. The recent protests in POK are believed to be driven by economic grievances and political repression.
The MEA's statement underscores India's position that Pakistan's internal troubles in POK are a result of its own policies and that attempts to blame India or spread disinformation will not succeed. India continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue through bilateral dialogue and respect for international law.
