Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi addressed newly passed out cadets at the National Defence Academy (NDA) on Saturday, warning that future conflicts will be fought across multiple domains, including land, air, sea, cyber, space, and information warfare. Speaking at the passing out parade, he emphasized the need for modern military training to adapt to these evolving challenges.
Multi-Domain Warfare
General Dwivedi stated that the character of war is changing rapidly, and future battles will not be confined to traditional physical domains. He highlighted that adversaries are increasingly using cyber attacks, disinformation campaigns, and space-based assets to achieve strategic objectives. The Army Chief urged the young officers to be prepared for hybrid warfare, which combines conventional and unconventional tactics.
Call for Adaptability
The General stressed the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in the face of technological advancements. He encouraged the cadets to embrace innovation and develop a deep understanding of new domains like artificial intelligence, drones, and electronic warfare. "The soldier of tomorrow must be a multi-skilled professional," he said.
NDA's Role
The NDA, located in Khadakwasla, Pune, is the premier joint training institution for the Indian Armed Forces. General Dwivedi praised the academy for producing officers with a joint services perspective, which is crucial for integrated operations in future conflicts. He also reminded the cadets of their responsibility to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
The passing out parade marked the culmination of rigorous training for the cadets, who will now undergo further specialized training before joining their respective services. A total of 1,200 cadets passed out, including 20 from friendly foreign countries.
