Amit Shah to Launch Smart Border Project in Jaisalmer

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Jaisalmer for a two-day visit on May 25 and May 26. During this visit, he will outline plans for a ‘Smart Border Project’ and a ‘New Border Security Strategy’ focused on hybrid warfare and drone warfare along the international border with Pakistan.

Smart Border Project Details

The proposed ‘Smart Border Project’ will be equipped with drones, radar, modern cameras, and other advanced technologies. The aim is to create an impenetrable border grid that can effectively counter threats from across the border.

Visit Highlights

During his visit, Shah will meet BSF jawans deployed on the India-Pakistan international border to boost their morale. He will also hold a high-level review meeting on security challenges arising from across the border and other important issues.

Officials noted that incidents of smuggling of narcotics and weapons through drones from across the Pakistan border have been increasing in the Bikaner and Sriganganagar sectors of Rajasthan. This has necessitated a robust response.

Preparatory Meeting

Chief Secretary V Srinivas reviewed security, coordination, and administrative matters related to border areas at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Saturday for Shah's visit. The meeting was convened regarding preparations for the upcoming border security review meeting. Collectors and SPs of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, and Phalodi joined via video conferencing.
