In a decisive move to safeguard public health and the environment, the district administration of West Garo Hills has mandated the immediate shutdown of all unauthorized brick kilns operating across the region. The directive was issued under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023 by District Magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal on Saturday. This order aligns with the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) mandate for stringent measures against polluting brick kilns that lack the necessary environmental clearances. Aggarwal emphasized that the closure is essential to prevent further degradation of air quality and protect community well-being.

In an official statement, Aggarwal noted that numerous unauthorized brick kilns have been operating in the district without proper environmental approvals. "If an order is not passed to close the operation of such brick kilns, the air quality of the surrounding areas is bound to deteriorate, thereby having an adverse impact on the health of the local population and the workers at the camp," the District Magistrate stated.
