Vadodara: As the monsoon season approaches, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has intensified its pre-monsoon preparations to prevent flooding and waterlogging, following last year's devastating floods. The civic body is stepping up drain cleaning, infrastructure upgrades, and emergency preparedness across the city.
Extensive Drain Cleaning Underway
VMC officials stated that extensive work is underway on stormwater drains, channels, and drainage lines throughout Vadodara. Ongoing stormwater drain projects have been prioritized to ensure timely completion ahead of the rainy season. So far, the civic body has cleared 24.37 kilometers of stormwater drains and 48.24 kilometers of channels. Additionally, 26,125 catchpits and 28,960 manholes have been cleaned. Officials confirmed that the remaining work is expected to be completed well before the onset of the monsoon.
New Drain Projects and Infrastructure Upgrades
To strengthen flood mitigation, the VMC is executing 23 new storm drain projects with a combined length of approximately 15 kilometers. Drainage lines spanning 11.61 kilometers are also being laid at 25 locations across the city. These measures aim to enhance the capacity of the drainage system and reduce the risk of waterlogging during heavy rains.
Emergency Equipment and Readiness
The civic body has kept emergency equipment ready to respond swiftly in the event of heavy rainfall. This includes 37 earthmovers, 33 dumpers, 18 jetting machines, 10 suction machines, and 40 desilting machines, along with other machinery. The VMC is prepared to deploy these resources at short notice to address any flooding emergencies.
With these proactive steps, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation aims to minimize the impact of the monsoon and ensure the safety and convenience of residents.
