Uttar Pradesh Sizzles as Banda Tops State Heat Chart for Second Day
UP Heatwave: Banda Hottest, 5 Cities in India's Top 10

Uttar Pradesh Endures Scorching Heatwave with Multiple Cities Among Nation's Hottest

Uttar Pradesh continued to bake under relentless heat on Wednesday as dry, hot winds swept across the state and clear skies allowed the blazing sun to pour fire upon the landscape. Daytime temperatures remained stubbornly above 40 degrees Celsius in most districts, with five Uttar Pradesh locations securing positions among the ten hottest places in the entire country.

Regional Temperature Disparities and National Rankings

The Bundelkhand region and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced significantly higher temperatures compared to the western areas and the Terai belt bordering Nepal and Uttarakhand. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Banda maintained its status as the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive day, recording a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 units above the normal seasonal average.

Banda's scorching reading also earned it the distinction of being the third hottest location in all of India, trailing only Jharsuguda in Odisha (44.6°C) and Wardha in Maharashtra (44.2°C).

Multiple UP Cities in National Heat Rankings

Prayagraj sizzled at 43.7 degrees Celsius maximum temperature, tying for fourth hottest in the country alongside Shriganganagar in Rajasthan and Akola in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh simmered at 43.3 degrees Celsius, securing the sixth position nationally, just behind Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh (43.4°C).

Other notable Uttar Pradesh cities in the national heat rankings included Varanasi at eighth place with 43.1 degrees Celsius and Agra at tenth position with exactly 43 degrees Celsius. The state capital Lucknow also remained above the 40-degree mark, recording a maximum temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius, which is 2 units above normal. The minimum temperature in Lucknow was 24.5 degrees Celsius, 2.3 notches above the expected level.

Immediate Forecast and Meteorological Analysis

For Thursday, Lucknow is predicted to witness clear skies with maximum and minimum temperatures around 42 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. The weather department has indicated that dry and hot conditions are likely to persist across Uttar Pradesh until the weekend, with maximum and minimum temperatures potentially rising by 2-3 degrees at some locations over the next four days.

During this period, most parts of the state will continue to experience the punishing effects of 'loo' – the dry, hot winds that characterize North Indian summers.

Mohammad Danish, a senior scientist at IMD Lucknow, explained the meteorological factors behind the prolonged heatwave: "Strong hot westerly winds from Rajasthan, supported by an anti-cyclonic circulation over Maharashtra that brings additional heat, are responsible for the elevated temperatures across Uttar Pradesh over the past several days."

Potential Relief on the Horizon

Danish provided a glimmer of hope for residents suffering through the extreme conditions: "A western disturbance originating from the Mediterranean Sea is expected to reach Afghanistan by Saturday. This system may bring some relief to central and western parts of Uttar Pradesh between April 26-28 in the form of cloudy skies. Light rainfall or drizzle could also occur in isolated places, though eastern Uttar Pradesh will continue to face hot conditions."

According to meteorological officials, the anticipated light rainfall, cloudy skies, and moisture incursion would likely arrest further temperature increases or potentially lead to a drop in mercury levels by 2-3 degrees on April 27 and 28. However, this change would also make the weather more humid and sultry, potentially increasing discomfort levels despite the slightly lower temperatures.

The current heatwave represents a significant weather event affecting millions of residents across India's most populous state, with authorities monitoring conditions closely as summer intensifies across the northern plains of the country.
