UAE Eid Plans Threatened by Week of Rain, Thunderstorms

UAE Braces for Unsettled Weather During Eid Preparations

As families across the United Arab Emirates step out to prepare for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr celebrations and plan to host grand parties, the weather appears poised to significantly disrupt their activities. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning for a week of unsettled conditions, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and possible hail in certain parts of the country.

Atmospheric Instability Predicted Across the Emirates

In its latest forecast covering March 21 to 27, the NCM stated that the UAE will be affected by a state of atmospheric instability as cloud systems move in from the west. These conditions are expected to trigger convective cloud formation across various regions, leading to rainfall of varying intensity at intervals. The forecast indicates that some areas may experience thunder and lightning, with a chance of hail in limited locations.

On Thursday, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) announced it is taking proactive measures to prepare for the unstable weather and assess the situation. The authority confirmed it will be collaborating closely with the Ministry of Interior, the NCM, and other key partners to monitor developments throughout this period.

Detailed Weekly Weather Outlook

Rain activity is expected to intensify over the coming weekend. Today, Friday, conditions are forecast to be partly cloudy with the possibility of rain in some areas. Saturday is anticipated to begin with light to moderate rain showers across scattered areas, potentially becoming heavy over the northern and eastern regions, including Al Ain, during the daytime.

On Sunday, rainfall of differing intensities is expected to continue, particularly over the northern and eastern parts of the country. Monday and Tuesday will see cloud development extending over most parts of the UAE, accompanied by rainfall. By Wednesday, cloud cover is predicted to persist with chances of rain easing slightly but continuing over some northern and eastern areas.

From Thursday to Saturday, convective cloud activity is expected to redevelop over scattered areas, bringing rainfall of varying intensity once again.

Safety Advisory for Residents

Residents have been strongly advised to stay updated with official forecasts and exercise caution during periods of heavy rain. Specific concerns include reduced visibility on roads and potential water accumulation. This weather pattern means that all upcoming Eid celebrations and iftar parties may need to be organized in indoor areas to ensure safety and comfort.

The meteorological developments come at a crucial time when many in the UAE are finalizing preparations for one of the most significant religious observances in the Islamic calendar. The NCM's warning underscores the importance of flexibility in planning and highlights the region's vulnerability to sudden weather changes during transitional seasons.
