Tamil Nadu Heavy Rain Alert: Nov 21-26 Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather advisory for Tamil Nadu, predicting persistent rainfall across the state for the coming days. Residents should prepare for a wet week ahead as meteorological conditions favor widespread precipitation.

Detailed District-Wise Forecast

Weather authorities have identified specific districts likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated spots. Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts, along with the Karaikal region, are on alert for potentially heavy showers. The IMD expects this pattern to continue over the next several days, with meteorologists forecasting isolated heavy rain in Tamil Nadu from November 21 to 26.

For Friday, November 21 specifically, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The forecast also indicates that one or two locations might experience thunderstorms and lightning activities, adding to the volatile weather conditions.

Chennai and Regional Weather Outlook

The capital city and its surrounding regions are expected to experience relatively milder weather conditions compared to the southern districts. Chennai's maximum temperature is likely to range between 30°C and 31°C, while the minimum temperature may stay between 23°C and 24°C. The sky over Chennai is predicted to remain partly cloudy throughout the day.

Moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Ranipet districts. The regional meteorological center has specifically indicated that moderate rain may also occur at isolated places over these same districts during the next one or two hours.

Extended Forecast and Agricultural Impact

The rainy weather is expected to continue through the weekend and into the following week. According to IMD's extended forecast, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with Puducherry and Karaikal areas on both Saturday and Sunday.

In response to the ongoing weather pattern, farm advisories have been issued to protect agricultural interests. Farmers are advised to keep harvested rice and groundnut in safe storage to prevent damage from moisture. Additional recommendations include draining excess water from fields containing rice, sugarcane, cotton, black gram, maize, vegetables, and from plantations of coconut, banana, cinnamon, and black pepper. For banana cultivators, the advisory specifically suggests supporting plants with wooden poles to prevent them from falling due to heavy winds or waterlogged soil conditions.
