Sitapur Family Devastated After Son Allegedly Killed in Riyadh Missile Strike

A family from Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh is grappling with profound grief after claiming their 26-year-old son was allegedly killed in a missile strike in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The incident is reported to have occurred amid the ongoing tensions and conflict between Iran and Israel, which has seen regional escalations involving missile barrages and defensive responses from neighboring countries.

Family's Heartbreaking Account of the Incident

Ravi Gopal, a resident of Baghain village under the Mahmoodabad police station limits, had been working in Riyadh since September 18, 2025. Employed at a plastic factory in the Saudi capital, he was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his father Ravneet, mother Baijanti, wife Ritu, and a four-year-old son. His elder brother, Manmohan, works in Lucknow and supports his own family, making Ravi's income crucial for their household.

According to family members, the tragic event unfolded on the night of March 18 while Ravi was speaking to his wife over the phone. "He called around 8:20 pm Indian time and was talking normally. After some time, the call suddenly disconnected. We heard a loud explosion in the background before the phone went dead," recounted Manmohan. The family's repeated attempts to contact Ravi proved futile as his phone remained switched off, heightening their anxiety.

Official Confirmation Pending as Family Seeks Urgent Assistance

The next day, on March 19, a friend informed the family that Ravi had been killed in a missile attack in Riyadh, plunging them into utter shock and despair. The news has left the family devastated, and they have urgently appealed to the government for assistance in bringing Ravi's body back to India for last rites and closure.

However, the Sitapur district administration has yet to receive any official information about the incident. Sitapur DM Rajaganapathy R stated, "We have asked the family to give us details in writing which will be forwarded to the government and further to the embassy of Saudi Arabia." This lack of confirmation adds to the family's distress as they await clarity and support.

Background and Family's Plea for Help

Ravi Gopal had first traveled to Saudi Arabia after his marriage in 2020, seeking better employment opportunities to support his family. He returned briefly to India in 2025 for his sister's wedding before departing again for work, highlighting his dedication as the primary earning member. His untimely death has not only shattered his loved ones but also raised concerns about the safety of Indian expatriates in regions affected by geopolitical conflicts.

The family's appeal underscores the need for swift governmental action and diplomatic efforts to verify the incident and facilitate the repatriation process. As tensions in the Middle East continue to make headlines, with reports of missile strikes and defensive responses from countries like the UAE and Kuwait, this personal tragedy brings a human face to the broader conflict, emphasizing the urgent need for support and resolution for affected families.
