Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) on Saturday organized a cyclothon to encourage cycling and reduce the use of motorized vehicles for short-distance movement on the campus. The rally began from the director’s office in the administrative block and passed through the old OPD, Gate No. 2, EMRTC, Advanced Diabetic Centre, and PMSSY before returning to the starting point.
SGPGI director Prof R K Dhiman, chief medical superintendent Dr Devendra Gupta, dean Dr Shaleen Kumar, and several senior faculty members, officers, and technical staff participated in the event. Institute officials said the initiative was aimed at promoting fuel conservation and encouraging environmentally sustainable practices amid growing global energy concerns linked to the current situation.
The cyclothon saw enthusiastic participation from staff and faculty, highlighting the institute's commitment to a greener campus. By opting for bicycles instead of motor vehicles for short distances, participants contributed to reducing carbon emissions and setting an example for the community. Such initiatives are part of broader efforts to address environmental challenges and promote healthier lifestyles.
