In a significant push for environmental stewardship, the 'Suno Nahron Ki Pukar' Mission organized a comprehensive awareness program on Sunday in Rohtak. The event, held near the canal bridge along the Delhi bypass, brought together experts, officials, and community members to emphasize the critical need for protecting freshwater resources.
Experts Warn of Growing Water Contamination Threats
Executive engineer Ramniwas from the JLN Feeder division of the irrigation department addressed the gathering, highlighting a troubling trend of societal apathy towards water purity. He cautioned that rampant pollution is rapidly transforming rivers and canals into mere drainage channels, with severe consequences for public health and ecosystems.
Ramniwas pointed to scientific studies revealing alarming levels of contaminants in water bodies, including microplastics, arsenic, and uranium. These substances pose direct risks to human health and disrupt ecological balance, underscoring the urgency of intervention. He urged citizens to abandon careless practices like dumping waste into canals and instead adopt informed, responsible behaviors to curb water degradation.
Call for Sustainable Development and Collective Action
Dharam Singh, a retired scientist from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar, praised the mission's dedication, describing its members' emotional and ethical commitment as profoundly inspiring. He stressed the necessity of sustainable development, invoking the wisdom of poet Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana to illustrate water's invaluable role in life.
Singh called for heightened awareness and shared responsibility in safeguarding natural resources, emphasizing that conservation efforts must be a collective endeavor to ensure long-term viability.

Jasmer Singh, founder and chief patron of the mission, elaborated on this year's World Water Day theme — Water and Gender Equality. He highlighted the importance of inclusive participation across all societal segments, noting that equitable access to water and collaborative stewardship are fundamental to achieving sustainability goals.
The event concluded with participants renewing their pledge to protect canals and promote environmentally conscious practices, reinforcing a community-wide commitment to water conservation in Rohtak and beyond.
