Ranchi Braces for Prolonged Heatwave with Minimal Rain Relief
The Ranchi Meteorological office has issued a stark warning, indicating that hot and dry weather conditions are set to dominate most parts of Jharkhand for the coming days. According to the latest forecast, there is a high likelihood of scorching temperatures persisting across the state, with only isolated pockets in the northeastern districts expected to see any rainfall between April 16 and April 18.
Extended Dry Spell and Soaring Temperatures
Dry weather is anticipated to prevail throughout Jharkhand at least until April 21, as confirmed by the Met office. This prolonged period of aridity is already being felt, with Seraikela recording temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The situation is expected to intensify, as the state capital, Ranchi, is projected to experience maximum temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celsius on April 19.
Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the Ranchi Met office, emphasized the severity of the forecast, stating, "Ranchi and its neighbourhood for the next five days will witness more rise in daytime temperatures and there is no possibility of rain." This statement underscores the challenging conditions residents are likely to face, with heatwave alerts becoming increasingly critical.
Localised Rainfall Predictions for Specific Districts
While the broader state remains under a dry spell, the weather bulletin highlights some exceptions. From April 16 to April 17, districts such as Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara, and Dumka may receive very light rainfall at isolated places. However, this relief will be minimal, as the remaining 20 districts across Jharkhand are expected to receive no precipitation at all during this period.
A similar pattern is forecasted from April 17 to the morning of April 18. During this time, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, and Sahibganj districts might experience some localised rain at isolated spots. Despite this, the other 18 districts will continue to endure dry conditions, exacerbating the heatwave's impact.

The persistent hot and dry weather poses significant health risks, including heatstroke and dehydration. Authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and using cooling measures.
