Cool Weather Persists Across Rajasthan with Unseasonal Rainfall
Cool weather conditions continued to prevail across Rajasthan on Sunday, marked by cloud cover, light rainfall, and subdued temperatures in several districts. This unusual pattern indicates the lingering impact of a western disturbance, contrasting sharply with the typical hot and dry conditions expected in March.
Temperature and Rainfall Observations
According to the latest meteorological observations, maximum temperatures across the state ranged between 25°C and 35°C, which is 1 to 3 degrees below normal. Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.2°C, making it the warmest location in the region.
Rainfall activity, though scattered, was reported in a few pockets of the state on Sunday. Jaisalmer received the highest rainfall at 13.1 mm, followed by Sikar with 10 mm. Light showers were also recorded in parts of Churu, Pilani, and adjoining areas.
Impact on Jaipur and Forecast
In Jaipur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.2°C amidst cloudy conditions, with a minimum of 19.7°C. The city experienced partly cloudy skies, intermittent sunshine, and a pleasant dip in heat, although no rainfall was witnessed throughout the day.
The Met office in Jaipur has indicated that similar conditions are likely to persist over the next 24 hours. The forecast suggests partly to generally cloudy skies, with chances of light rain and thunderstorm activity in isolated areas. Temperatures in Jaipur are expected to remain stable, with a maximum around 30°C and a minimum near 21°C.
Damage to Rabi Crops
While the mid-week rainfall provided relief from heat wave conditions, it has also badly affected the Rabi crop across the state. Farmers in Jodhpur have complained of damage to the cumin (jeera) crop, while those in Jaisalmer reported damage to isabgol. Similarly, the wheat crop has been damaged in several districts, including Alwar, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.
Extended Pleasant Conditions
The Met office has stated that weather conditions are likely to be pleasant across Rajasthan for the next one week, as there is no possibility of heat wave conditions. This extended period of cool weather is expected to continue providing respite from the usual March heat, though it remains a concern for agricultural productivity due to the ongoing crop damage.
