The northern state of Rajasthan continued to experience a severe cold spell over the weekend, with temperatures dropping significantly across multiple districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the persistence of these chilly conditions on Saturday, stating that several areas recorded notably low minimum temperatures.
Key Districts Record Chilling Lows
According to the latest data from the meteorological office, Fatehpur in Sikar district registered the state's lowest temperature at a biting 5.4 degrees Celsius on Friday night. It was closely followed by the district headquarters of Sikar itself, where the mercury fell to 5.8 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave made its presence felt in the state capital as well, with Jaipur recording a minimum temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius. Other major towns were not far behind, with both Dabok and Ajmer noting identical lows of 10.5 degrees Celsius.
Widespread Chill Across Eastern Rajasthan
The eastern parts of the state were particularly affected. The IMD reported that Alwar shivered at 6 degrees Celsius, while Karauli and Dausa recorded minimums of 6.2 and 6.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
Further readings from the met office highlighted the extensive reach of the cold conditions:
- Vanasthali in Tonk district saw the night temperature settle at 7.1 degrees Celsius.
- Churu registered a low of 7.6 degrees Celsius.
- Pilani recorded a night temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius.
No Immediate Relief in Sight
The weather department has indicated that there will be little change in the prevailing situation. The cold weather conditions are expected to remain largely unchanged during the next 24 hours, offering no immediate respite to the residents of Rajasthan from the ongoing winter chill.
This persistent dip in nighttime temperatures is characteristic of the winter season in North India, prompting authorities to advise citizens, especially the vulnerable, to take necessary precautions against the cold.
