Rajasthan Shivers at 1.9°C: Cold Wave Tightens Grip, Disrupts Life
Rajasthan Cold Wave: Fatehpur Hits 1.9°C, Lowest in State

A biting cold wave continues to hold Rajasthan in its icy grip, bringing life to a near standstill in many parts of the state. The mercury plunged to a bone-chilling 1.9 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur, Sikar district, on Friday, marking the lowest temperature recorded in Rajasthan this season.

Record Low Temperatures Across the State

While Fatehpur bore the brunt of the freeze, several other districts also experienced severe cold wave conditions. The state capital, Jaipur, witnessed its coldest morning of the season so far, with the minimum temperature dropping to 9.2 degrees Celsius. A thick blanket of dense fog enveloped multiple areas, severely affecting visibility and throwing morning traffic into disarray.

The intense cold has created a stark temperature map across Rajasthan. Following Fatehpur's 1.9°C, other low readings included Lunkaransar at 3.2°C, Churu at 4.5°C, Dausa at 4.6°C, and Pilani at 4.8°C. Alwar recorded 5.4°C, while Karauli and Jhunjhunu saw 6.1°C and 6.4°C respectively. Sriganganagar, Vanasthali, and Sirohi registered temperatures between 7.2°C and 7.5°C.

In contrast, some western districts reported relatively milder nights. Udaipur recorded a minimum of 10.0°C, Chittorgarh 10.2°C, Jaisalmer 11.0°C, Jodhpur 12.7°C, and Barmer 13.5°C.

Impact on Public Health and Civic Response

The harsh weather is taking a significant toll on public health. Hospitals and clinics across the state have reported a noticeable increase in patients suffering from respiratory illnesses like cough, cold, and asthma, along with complaints of joint pain. Medical professionals have issued advisories, urging the elderly and infants to avoid early morning exposure to the cold.

The most vulnerable sections of society, including homeless individuals and slum dwellers, are facing extreme hardship. In response, shelter homes and various non-governmental organizations have accelerated their relief efforts, distributing blankets and warm clothing. Anticipating a further dip in temperatures, the municipal corporations have also increased the number of operational night shelters.

No Immediate Respite in Forecast

According to the Meteorological Department, there is little hope for relief in the coming days. The forecast predicts that cold wave conditions are likely to persist at many places, particularly in districts like Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Bikaner. For Jaipur, the weather office expects mainly clear skies with temperatures likely to hover around 10°C or below.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, layer up with warm clothing, and heed official advisories as Rajasthan endures this intense spell of winter weather.
