The district administration of Raichur has issued a heatwave alert in response to forecasts of rising temperatures in the coming days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Official Advisory
In a statement released on Friday, Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority Chairperson S Poovitha urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and wear loose cotton clothing. The administration emphasized the importance of taking extra care of children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Key Precautions
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity between noon and 3 pm, the hottest part of the day.
- Consume fluids such as buttermilk, lemon juice, and tender coconut water to maintain hydration.
- Protect yourself by using caps, umbrellas, and wet cloths when working outdoors.
- Ensure access to drinking water at workplaces for outdoor workers.
Warnings
The administration warned residents against leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can rise rapidly. Additionally, people are advised to avoid alcohol, excessive tea or coffee, and stale food during the heatwave period, as these can exacerbate dehydration and health risks.
Additional Measures
The district administration has urged employers to provide adequate shade and water for outdoor workers. Schools and offices may adjust timings if necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors during peak hours and check on neighbors, especially those living alone.
