Pune Weather Update: Relief from Rain as Dry Spell Approaches

After enduring days of intense, short-duration thundershowers, Pune residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief. According to an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain activity is expected to reduce significantly starting Saturday, paving the way for largely dry conditions from Sunday onward. This shift marks a welcome change for the city, which has been grappling with unpredictable weather patterns.

IMD Predicts Clearer Skies and Rising Temperatures

The IMD official confirmed that there is no rainfall warning issued for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan regions from Sunday. This indicates a transition to more stable weather, with forecasts predicting a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C between April 5 and 9. For Pune specifically, the IMD has forecast mainly clear skies, which may become partly cloudy during the afternoon or evening hours from Sunday. Importantly, no rain is anticipated for the city from Sunday onwards, offering a reprieve from the recent wet spell.

Independent Forecaster Insights on Weather Patterns

Independent weather expert Abhijit Modak provided additional context, noting that rainfall activity is tapering off across Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune. He explained that while some isolated showers occurred in the region on Friday, these will cease from Saturday. Modak emphasized that the weather system responsible for the recent rain is not weakening but rather shifting geographically eastward. This movement means its impact will now be felt over areas like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur, rather than western Maharashtra.

Modak detailed how such systems typically influence different parts of Maharashtra sequentially. First affecting western Maharashtra, including Pune, before moving eastward. He stated that Friday marked the last day of this system's influence over Pune, with broader forecasts sometimes missing this area-wise progression. The current spell is part of a larger week-long pattern he had previously outlined, with impacts shifting from western Maharashtra and ghat regions till April 3, then to Marathwada and Vidarbha until around April 6.

Weekend Weather and Long-Term Outlook

With the system moving away, Modak predicts clearer weather conditions over the weekend, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures. Once the western disturbance dissipates, clear skies and north-easterly winds are expected to lower temperatures, with minimums in Pune potentially falling to around 14–15°C on Sunday and Monday. He noted that such temperature dips are possible in April under specific atmospheric conditions.

Looking ahead, Modak anticipates a return to normal summer conditions from April 10, with maximum temperatures rising to approximately 38–40°C, particularly in eastern Pune areas like Lohegaon. He added that no immediate rainfall activity is visible after this current spell, with any potential next rainfall possibly occurring after April 15, though long-term forecasts remain uncertain. This outlook suggests residents should prepare for warmer, drier days ahead, as Pune transitions into its typical summer climate.
