Prayagraj Experiences Dramatic Weather Reversal with Winds and Rain
The city of Prayagraj witnessed a sudden and dramatic transformation in weather conditions on Friday, shifting from intense morning heat to afternoon winds and light rainfall. This unexpected change brought significant cooling but also raised serious concerns among the agricultural community.
From Scorching Heat to Sudden Cooling
The day began with bright sunshine and oppressive heat, continuing the recent trend of rising temperatures. However, by afternoon, dark clouds rapidly covered the sky, followed by strong gusty winds and light rain showers. This meteorological shift made the weather noticeably cooler and more pleasant for residents who had been enduring uncomfortable conditions.
According to meteorological department data, such fluctuations have been observed over the past two days, with forecasts indicating continued thunderstorm and rainfall activity. The sudden cloud cover and gusty winds led to a sharp temperature decline that was both dramatic and measurable.
Temperature Plunge and Weather Warnings
On Thursday, Prayagraj recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius with a minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius. Friday saw a significant drop of approximately 5 degrees, with the maximum temperature recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 23.6 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of strong winds and substantial rainfall. As per the official warning, Prayagraj and adjoining areas will experience a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thunder showers. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kilometers per hour are also likely on Saturday, according to IMD forecasts.
Agricultural Concerns Amid Weather Relief
While the weather change has brought comfort to urban residents, it has increased worries for wheat farmers across the region. Wheat harvesting is currently underway in many agricultural areas, with some fields still containing standing crops ready for harvest.
Farmers fear that strong winds and rain could damage their crops through flattening or exposure to excessive moisture, potentially putting months of hard labor at risk. "If the rain intensifies, our crops may suffer heavy losses," expressed a concerned farmer from Soraon, highlighting the agricultural anxiety surrounding the weather shift.
Infrastructure Impacts and Disruptions
The sudden weather event caused several infrastructure disruptions across Prayagraj. Power supply was interrupted in multiple areas, including Preetam Nagar, for several hours due to the strong winds. Some trees were uprooted by the gusty conditions, and advertising hoardings sustained damage from the unexpected weather forces.
This weather pattern represents a significant departure from recent conditions and serves as a reminder of the region's climatic variability during this transitional period.
