Nor'westers Claim Three Lives in Odisha's Mayurbhanj and Puri Districts
In a tragic incident, at least three individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries as powerful Nor'westers struck the districts of Mayurbhanj and Puri in Odisha. Police authorities confirmed the details on Saturday, highlighting the devastating impact of the severe weather conditions.
Impact in Mayurbhanj District
According to officials, the Nor'westers, accompanied by intense thunderstorms, hit Baripada, the headquarters of Mayurbhanj district, around 11 pm on Friday. The strong winds led to fatal accidents involving motorcycles. Two people were killed and three others injured when they lost control of their two-wheelers due to the storms and collided with roadside trees.
The deceased have been identified as Ramdas Hansada from Asanayoda and Nagen Murmu from the Khunta area in Mayurbhanj district. The three injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the Baripada district headquarters hospital.
Casualty in Puri District
In Puri district, a separate fatality occurred when a coconut tree fell on a man during the storms on Friday night. The victim has been named as Jagannath Behera from Alis village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pipili Police Station.
Additionally, the strong winds caused significant damage to several houses in the Kanas, Delanga, and Satyabadi areas of Puri district, as reported by local officers.

Emergency services and police are actively managing the situation, with efforts focused on providing aid to the injured and assessing the extent of property damage. The Nor'westers, known for their sudden and violent nature, have underscored the vulnerability of regions to such natural calamities.
